Website Analytics and Cookie Consent
This notice covers optional audience measurement on the separate public feed. The main reader, account and administration areas, invitation links and this privacy page operate without analytics scripts. Tracking on the public feed requires an enabled site configuration and a valid browser choice.
- Google Analytics 4 provides aggregate reports on visits and engagement, including page views, approximate region and device category. Google explains how it derives location information and discards IP addresses collected from visitors in the EU, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
- Microsoft Clarity uses clicks, scrolling, browser and rendering information to produce heatmaps and session replays. Its recording scope is the separate public feed. The public feed does not include account details, passwords, drafts or newsletter forms.
Depending on the tool, processing can involve the public page visited, timestamps, approximate location, browser and device information, interaction events and session identifiers. We use these measurements to understand how readers use the public feed. Advertising storage and personalization are disabled in the site’s analytics integration.
We rely on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Accepting the current notice enables these two providers on the public feed. Declining keeps both off. Your choice is stored in this browser for this website. To withdraw it, open the public feed, choose Analytics preferences and decline. You can also clear this website’s browser storage to reset your choice. Withdrawal applies to future collection.
Google and Microsoft may process the data outside the European Economic Area. Their privacy notices describe the providers’ processing and transfer arrangements. Google’s property retention setting governs user and event data, and standard aggregate reports follow separate rules. Microsoft says recordings generally remain available for 30 days. Favorited recordings and a random sample may be retained for up to nine months. Microsoft describes standard contractual clauses for transfers between its Irish and US entities. The provider pages explain these arrangements.
Reader, account and newsletter
Search terms, filters and reading language are sent to the news service when you use the reader. Reading preferences, appearance settings and local drafts are stored in your browser. A signed-in account stores bookmarks and followed lists on the service. Community sessions are stored in the current tab and can be ended through account controls. The reader’s local reset clears browser preferences.
The newsletter service stores your name, email, confirmation and consent, delivery frequency, and the optional details you choose. Each address is confirmed separately. Account linking is optional and can be removed. Manage or end your subscription through your personal newsletter link. If the site uses Cloudflare Turnstile, opening newsletter signup can send technical connection information to that service.
Opening an external source takes you to that provider’s service and privacy information.
